History

It was founded in 1945 by the Swiss immigrants Walter Gogel and Max Banzinger, who came to the country in order to start a new life after fleeing World War II.2

They settled in the Sopó Valley, just outside of Bogotá and started producing cheese. At that time, they bought 500 bottles of milk and manually made the Emmental, Gruyère and Parmesano.2

For 8 years, friends Goggel and Bazinger directly led the production, distribution and marketing of the products. Then, with a bank loan, they acquired a land of seven fanegadas to build the factory and produce exquisite cheeses and butters.

In 10 years Alpina already processed 3000 liters of milk per day. Today it buys 397 780 455 liters of milk per year, has 6 plants in Colombia and operations in the United States, Venezuela and Ecuador. Likewise, it markets its products in the Central American market.

Today Alpina reaches 95% of the population in Colombia, and according to Kantar Worldpanel, 9 out of 10 Colombian households buy some Alpine product, 1 covering 72% of the market for dairy drinks
